ANWR=Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Now, A comparison and some perspective

NOTE WHERE THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT AREA IS.    (It's in the "ANWR Coastal Plain")

This is what the "Greens" show you when they want you to believe this is the area that will affected by exploration for crude oil and drilling.

And they are right,  these ARE photographs of ANWR.

Isn't ANWR beautiful? Why should we drill here and destroy this beautiful place?

WELL,  THAT'S NOT EXACTLY THE TRUTH

Do you remember the map? The map showed that the proposed drilling area is in the ANWR Coastal Plain.

Do those photographs look like a coastal plain to you?

WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?

THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE.

That is not where they are wanting to DRILL!

This is what the proposed exploration area actually looks like in the winter.

And this is what it actually looks like in the summer!

As you can see, the area where they are talking about drilling is a barren wasteland. Oh, they say they are concerned about the effect on the local wildlife. Well here is a photo, shot during the summer, of the 'depleted wildlife' situation created by drilling around Prudhoe Bay.

Do you think that the caribou really care or hate that drilling?

And hey, this bear seems to really be upset about the pipeline near Prudhoe Bay also.

The Prudhoe Bay area accounts for 17% of U.S. domestic oil production. Why do you think the Democrats are lying about ANWR?

Remember when Al Gore said that the Government should work to artificially raise gas prices to $5.00 a gallon?

They have almost reached their goal. It's the same old story, tell the lie loud and long enough and they will believe it. But there is a stronger verse, "That which is hidden will come to light."

You can help by knowing and spreading the truth.

SO THAT THEY WILL KNOW THE TRUTH!

Sound Economic Philosophy

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot lift the wage earner by destroying the wage payer.

You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.

You cannot further the brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred.

You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.

You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

 Have A Great 4th!

I've kept a copy of the above for years, reviewing it from time to time.  Actually, I used it as a hand-out when I was campaigning for the Arizona State Senate seat from Lake Havasu City, many years ago. Unfortunately, most of today's leaders do not subscribe to the philosophy.  Yet, it's as true today, as it was when written!   Shirley Mac

 Hualapai Mountain Ruckus-$1000 Reward

Mohave County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's assistance for information regarding vehicle thefts and criminal damage that occurred on Saturday, April 26, 2008, between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in the area of the Hualapai Mountains.  Five vehicles were stolen from a residential area and were later recovered after the vehicles were stranded.  One of the vehicles struck a large tree near Hualapai Mountain Road and Crumb Road.  Another vehicle was stuck on a hill on large rocks in the Hualapai Mountain Park.  All of the vehicles were recovered after they were inoperable and abandoned.  Also during the same timeframe, a Colt .45 caliber handgun was stolen from a motor home in the same area and has not been recovered.
If anyone has any information, please contact the Detectives Division at Mohave County Sheriff's Office at
(928) 753-0753 or Silent Witness at (888) 227-8780.  A reward up to $2000.00 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the thefts and criminal damage.

         A Boating Safety Message
The Mohave County Sheriff's Office wishes all those who reside and visit Mohave County; A safe Fourth of July weekend.  With increased traffic expected this weekend, both on the roadways and waterways, we ask everyone to take the time to be a little more careful.
Please remember that all children 12 years of age and younger must be wearing a coast guard approved floatation device.   We highly recommend that everyone wears a personal floatation device whenever boating.
You must be twelve years of age or older to operate a personal watercraft.
Operating a watercraft under the influence of alcohol carries the same penalties of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  A large amount of fatalities involved in boating are alcohol related.
Remember that most accidents are due to inattention and inexperience.
If it isn't you, it could be the person right next to you, therefore be careful and watch out for others!
We hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July weekend, but more importantly a safe holiday!

     DUI TASK FORCES PATROLLING STATE

 THROUGHOUT JULY 4TH HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Holiday Traditions, Hot Temperatures Could Raise Number of Impaired Drivers, Crashes

July 4th is celebrated as "America's Birthday," and many people commemorate with an alcoholic beverage, so many in fact that more beer is sold and consumed on this holiday than any other. To combat the high number of drunk drivers on the roads, Arizona's DUI Task Forces will be removing impaired drivers with sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout the extended holiday

weekend beginning, Thursday, July 3.

"We want people to enjoy our nation's birthday weekend, but celebrate safely," said Richard Fimbres, Director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). "Be smart and plan ahead. If you drink alcohol, use a sober designated driver, call a cab or a sober friend, or find another safe way home."

During the 2007 July 4th DUI detail, 519 motorists were cited for DUI. While just one person was killed on July 4 last year, 33 people were killed during the 10-day extended Holiday period from Friday, June 29-Monday, July 9 (July 4 was on a Wednesday); 12 of those fatalities involved alcohol. With 34 million people nationally expected to drive more than 50 miles this holiday weekend, the roads again will be crowded.

"No matter what you drive, a passenger car, pickup or motorcycle, if you're caught driving impaired, you will be arrested," Fimbres said. "Don't let this Fourth of July blow up in your face. Do your part to make our roadways safer, don't get behind the wheel of a vehicle or operate a motorcycle if you've been drinking."

In Arizona, the penalties for impaired driving include: mandatory jail time, thousands of dollars in fines,

installation of an ignition interlock device for all offenders, suspended driver's licenses, and other costs (like lawyer's fees, increased insurance rates, etc).

Special Law Enforcement Awards & Dinner

On May 30th, 2008, the Governors Office of Highway Safety and Mother Against Drunk Driving hosted their 4th Annual Statewide Law Enforcement Recognition and Awards Dinner honoring members of law enforcement who
have dedicated their lives and careers towards public safety.
The dinner, held at the Marriott Buttes Resort in
Tempe, honored members of the law enforcement community whose committed efforts in 2007 have made Arizona safer. Glynn Birch, MADD National President was keynote speaker at the event. Also on hand to assist in the
presentations were Arizona MADD Executive Director Ericka Espino, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations Regional Director, Dr. David Manning.
Mohave County Sheriff's Deputy Chaun Williams received the state award for Outstanding Sheriff's Officer in a rural area.  Deputy Williams worked diligently in 2007 at searching for and apprehending impaired drivers. Throughout the year, he handled more than 1,200 calls
for service and made 48 DUI arrests on top of that.
Sgt. Don Bischoff, MCSO Task Force coordinator, accepted the state award for Outstanding DUI Task Force Unit. The Western Arizona DUI Task force is comprised of many small agencies in Mohave and
La Paz County.
In 2007, this task force conducted 135 details, in the two counties.
Mohave County SO conducted 53 details, 10 of which were sobriety checkpoints. Both county Sheriff's Departments conducted nearly 75% of the details reported by task force agencies in 2007.

Presentation at 6:30 p.m.

Lake Havasu Aquatic Center Gym, 100 Park Ave.

Lake Havasu City, Arizona 86403

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), Mohave County, and Lake Havasu City, in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration and Bureau of Land Management, are studying potential corridors in which to realign the portion of State Route (SR) 95 that passes through Lake Havasu City. SR 95 would potentially be realigned between Milepost (MP) 175 and MP 191 to a new corridor east of Lake Havasu City.

The study will identify a feasible corridor in which SR 95 could be realigned. It is anticipated that the findings of this study will be carried forward for further, detailed study.

The purpose of the meeting is to share the progress of the study and get feedback on alternatives that have been developed to date. The comments received from this meeting will be used to refine the corridor alternatives and help select alternatives to be be studied in further detail. Study team members will be present to answer your questions and address your concerns. Maps of the project area and informational exhibits will be available for viewing at the meeting.

Proposed Water Conservation Ordinance

A new city ordinance designed to promote water-saving habits by local residents and businesses is scheduled for additional review by the Lake Havasu City Council at their work session this Tuesday evening.  This meeting follows a series of prior public meetings wherein citizens in attendance learned about the purpose and intent of the new ordinance and the water-use restrictions it contains.  The input city staff received at those meetings will be presented for Council's consideration and discussion.  No formal action will be taken, however, the public is invited to attend and encouraged to provide commentary.

Annual 'Stella Awards'!

For those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck, who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald's in New Mexico where she purchased the coffee. You remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it between her knees while she was driving. Who would ever think one could get burned doing that, right?
That's right; these are awards for the most outlandish lawsuits and verdicts in the U.S. You know, the kinds of cases that make you scratch your head. So keep your head scratcher handy.
Here is one the Stella's for the past year:

                                 4TH PLACE
Jerry Williams, of Little Rock , Arkansas , garnered 4th Place in the Stella's when he was awarded $14,500 plus medical expenses after being bitten on the butt  by his next door neighbor's beagle - even though the beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard.
Williams did not get as much as he asked for because the jury believed the beagle might have been provoked  at the time of the butt bite because Williams had climbed over the fence into the yard and repeatedly shot the dog with a pellet gun.
Grrrrr . Scratch, scratch.

      Possible Double Homicide/Suicide

Mohave County Sheriff's deputies and detectives responded to a report of three shot victims Wednesday (7/2) evening.  Approximately 5:18 p.m., deputies and detectives responded to Highway 66 at milepost 97.5, approximately 40 miles northeast of Kingman.  Upon arrival, medical was at the scene and they determined all three adult subjects, 2 male and 1 female, to be deceased.  All three subjects died of apparent gun shot wounds.  The 9 mm handgun was found at the scene and is believed to be the murder weapon.   Apparently all three subjects were traveling eastbound in a vehicle on Highway 66 when the incident occurred.  At this time, it is not known if these victims are related, however they do have the same last name, or where they were coming from or their destination, and where they are from.  The motive is also not known.
Preliminary investigations believes this to be a double homicide and a suicide.  The identification of the three subjects is known and will be released pending notification of next of kin.  Autopsies are scheduled today.  This case remains under investigation.

A Better Deal for Our Vets
By U.S. Senator Jon Kyl

Congress recently sent the President an emergency funding bill dedicated to providing resources for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan; but unfortunately, $80 billion in other non-emergency spending unrelated to our nation's security was attached to the bill. I voted for the troop funding and against the unrelated funding.

For example, the bill included $178 million for prisons; $8.2 billion for a 13-week extension of unemployment benefits (and $178 million to administer it); $400 million for "science initiatives"; $210 million for the census; $150 million for the Food and Drug Administration; and $73 million for Katrina housing vouchers.

And the worst part: to pay for some of these initiatives, $3.6 billion was taken away from funding for the war against terrorists.

The bill also included an expansion of G.I. benefits, a program created after World War II to provide financial assistance to veterans to help them pursue higher education.

While I support expanding G.I. education benefits, this bill spends $62 billion to expand the program but only for service members on active duty since September 11, 2001, and it does so in a very inefficient way and at a cost in mandatory spending far more than necessary to pay for the benefits.

The bill also treats veterans with the same amount of active duty service differently. Monthly G.I. benefit payments are calculated according to the cost of the highest public tuition in the state where the veteran goes to school. For example, a veteran with three years of active duty service who attends the University of Arizona would receive about $15,775 per year, while a veteran with three years of active duty service who attends a college in New York would receive about $29,360 per year.

As I discussed in a recent column, I would have preferred adopting the proposal I cosponsored with Senators John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and Richard Burr. Our proposal would have expanded education benefits for all veterans who are eligible for G.I. benefits, including those who served on active duty prior to 9/11, and would have saved taxpayers over $24 billion in the way it is administered. It also would have eliminated the disparity of veterans benefits based upon where a veteran lives, and instead distributed benefits based upon length of service. And, unlike the bill included in the emergency spending package, the McCain-Graham-Burr alternative bill would have also increased educational benefits to all National Guard and Reserve members and allowed service members to use up to $6,000 per year of their education benefits to repay federal student loans. For those reasons, I believe that the McCain-Graham-Burr alternative was a much better option than the bill that passed the Senate, and a better deal for our veterans.

By delaying the previously passed emergency war funding bill for our troops and then attaching this $80 billion in unrelated spending, congressional Democrats force the President to either sign a bill bloated with unrelated mandatory spending initiatives or risk withholding the resources our troops urgently need. The President should not have to make that choice, but he will obviously not let the troops down.

Special July 4th Edition: Remembering What Happened the Last Time The Governing Elites Ignored an American Declaration of Independence

By Newt Gingrich

Something is happening in America as this July 4th approaches. On the internet, they call it "going viral" when a video or an article begins to spread rapidly and widely with no promotion, just through the strength of its timing and message.

This Fourth of July week, the idea that Congress is failing the American people when it comes to high energy costs, the idea that America can and should produce more of our energy needs and the idea that there will be political consequences for the elected officials who ignore this sentiment, all these ideas are going viral.

An Explosion of Interest on the Internet

Consider this:

In just two hours last Friday, an amazing 15,000 people watched this video on YouTube in which I discuss three ways Congress could act now to lower the price of gas. As of today, over 1 million people have viewed the video.

Over 1.2 million Americans have now signed American Solutions' "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" petition calling on Congress to act immediately to lower gas and diesel prices and help achieve energy independence.

American Solutions' new video on YouTube, "Energy Independence Day" was posted just yesterday and has already been viewed hundreds of times.

And here's something that just crossed my desk. John Bredeson is a trucker who is sick and tired of higher and higher diesel prices but little action from Congress. So he's turned his trucks into moving billboards to encourage real change in our energy policy, including a massive "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" logo! Watch the video here.

Our Chance to Make This Friday Energy Independence Day

The challenge now, our challenge is to take this spontaneous outpouring of energy and concern and translate it into action in Washington.

So I'm calling on everyone one last time to act now, while there's still time. Call or email your representative or senators and let them know what's happening online.

If they're coming home for the Fourth of July holiday, catch up with them in person at a parade or a backyard barbecue and ask them why they aren't taking these three simple steps to lower gas prices.

Ask them if they know the facts about offshore drilling, America's vast reserves of shale oil, and how opening up new areas to environmentally safe drilling would have an immediate impact on gas prices.

We All Know What Happened the Last Time an American Declaration of Independence Was Ignored.

However you're most comfortable doing it, make sure you deliver this message: This 4th of July isn't business as usual. Not this time. Not this year.

This Independence Day the American people are declaring our independence from high energy prices, from foreign dictators, and from pathetic excuses for inaction in Washington.

This 4th of July we're declaring our energy independence.

And we all know what happened to the last ruling elite that ignored an American declaration of independence.
